Widow's Kiss

$8.00

Widow’s Kiss was designed to showcase the heather and character of the fiber, with a bold cable repeat that offers enough negative and positive space to show up in the yarn, but also appears almost delicate when reflected in the halo these fibers offer.

The motif is easier than it looks, with long stretches of 2x2 rib hidden in the cables. The upper yoke takes advantage of this, transitioning into a beautifully distinct neckline with a combined raglan/saddle shoulder. Sleeves are worked in stockinette, and detail along the sides makes for easy modifications.

Widow’s Kiss is knit seamlessly from the bottom up. Body and sleeves are worked separately in the round and joined at armhole. Cables are both charted and written, and notes are included in the pattern on modifications to fit.

Yarn: Sawkill Farm 2 Ply Worsted (25% Romney wool, 25% Finnish Landrace wool, 25% Gotland wool, 25% Lincoln wool; 240yds/219m per 3.99oz/113g skein). Sample shown in Ash.

If using a substitute yarn with more memory/elasticity, note that gauge may vary in the cable section, as your yarn could pull in more. If substituting, I suggest a yarn without much elasticity or variegation, so the textures of the stitch patterns are visible. A solid, a tweed, or a heather in natural wool fiber will give you the look shown in my sample.

Gauge: 20sts/28rows per 4”/10cm in stockinette with largest needles.

Needles: US 6/4.0mm, US 5/3.75mm, US 4/3.5mm

Sizes:

36(38,40,42,44)(46,48,51,55)“

91.5(96.5,101.5,106.75,111.75)(116.75,122,129.5,139.75)cm

Sizing is based on final blocked fabric, and reflects circumference around sweater at bust. I suggest choosing the size that allows for about 5”/12.75cm of positive ease, based on your actual bust. Sample is shown in photos with 5”/12.75cm of positive ease.
