Stone Fence
I’d always heard how beautiful these yarnbabies were, but when Jill sent me this incredible green one, I had to do something special.
I decided that it needed to be a classic Aran Fisherman Sweater, as simple textures and repeating motifs show off the range of color in Jill’s dye and feature the cozy round fiber of this gorgeous Rambouillet wool beautifully. I chose bold lines that wouldn’t overpower the subtle differences in the greens, and I was sure to keep to repetitive geometric motifs that would allow the different turns and twists of the rustic fiber to be distinct but to feel smooth and tidy.
Rhinebeck always means cozy, classic sweaters to me, so this was the perfect plan. The lace is a little unexpected, but creates a beautiful texture and has an added air conditioning bonus. We all know how fickle the October weather can be in NY……
The sweater is knit from the bottom up in the round, then split into front and back to be worked flat to the shoulders. Once shoulders are seamed, sleeves are worked seamlessly from the shoulder down.

Yarn: Jill Draper Empire (100% Rambouillet wool, 1280yds/1170m per 27.2oz/770g skein). Sample shown in Emerald.
If substituting yarn, I suggest something with only a small amount of variegation in it. The subtle differences in shading are beautiful in the different textures here, but too much contrast would not work as well. Another Rambouillet or Cormo fiber would be gorgeous, as you want something a little toothy, but also big and round and squishy once blocked. Not too much drape, due to the lace.
