Poet's Dream

$8.00

Poets Dream is a lofty, delicate pullover with an elegant vibe.

The simple woven motif shows up beautifully in this subtly variegated fiber, and the touch of lace that finishes off the design adds just a bit of froth to the mix. Stockinette around the shoulders makes for easy shaping and allows the two textures to stand out beautifully. There are a few spots here where I had fun with the transitions on this design, making sure that the lines are neat and clean and flow from one element to the other just the way like them to - how the woven pattern lines up above the hem, the separation at the sides, the edge along each armhole, and the crisp shoulder seams, for instance.

Knitting this was a pleasure - between the soft, satisfying yarn and the simple motifs, I enjoyed every minute!

Worked from the bottom up, Poet's Dream begins with two hems, worked flat. They are joined together and the body is continued in the round to armholes. The body is then split into pieces, so the upper front and back halves can be worked flat to shoulders and seamed. Stitches are picked up around openings for collar and sleeves and worked in the round to end.

The woven motif and the lace transition are both charted and written, and notes are in the pattern on how and where to modify Poet's Dream for your size.

Yarn: Camellia Fiber Co. SOM DK (42% Baby Alpaca, 8% Merino, 50% Pima Cotton; 164yds/150m per 1.76oz/50g skein). Shown in Evergreen.

If substituting yarn, I suggest a light and lofty single-ply DK or a light worsted weight fiber. Note that I worked this DK at a worsted gauge to maintain an airy fabric. I do not suggest working this motif in a dense fabric. A more tightly spun yarn may work to gauge, but may be a bit different in both pattern and drape. Swatch and block to check look and gauge of your fabric, and also to get comfortable with the technique used here - being careful not to slip yarn too tightly/loosely when working pattern. Yarn quantity may vary with substitution.

Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rnds or rows per 4”/10cm in 1x1 rib and stockinette on larger needle. 20 sts and 32 rnds or rows per 4"/10 cm in woven pattern on larger needle. 22 sts and 28 rnds in 1x1 rib on smaller needle at collar and cuffs.

Needles: US#6/4mm and US#7/4.5mm needles, or size(s) to get gauge. I suggest using a longer circular needle for hem and body, and shorter circular needle for sleeves and collar. Optional extra US#7/4.5 needle for working hem pieces.

Sizes:

36(40.75,45.5,50.5,55.25)(60,64.75,69.5)”

91.5(103.5,115.5,128.25,140.25)(152.5,164.5,176.5)cm

For fit shown, I suggest 4”/10cm of positive ease.
