Manischewitz

$8.00

Manischewitz features a lot of garter stitch, a bit of lace, a touch of texture, the chance to combine beautiful colors, and tassels.

Small details like stockinette columns above the lace points, a bit of texture within the lace itself, and the amazing way garter stitch curves above a lace motif - elevate the basic design, but it’s still easy and rhythmic and a great break from heavily cabled sweaters.

The large size is giant and squishy, but not so much that it can’t be wrapped around your neck as a gorgeous statement piece. The smaller one is just perfect worn over a sweater or under a jacket, but it’s also big enough for a shoulder wrap. And the tassels just make me happy and feel so festive.

Yarn: Magpie Fibers Swanky DK (80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon, 250yds/230m per 4oz/115g skein).

Sample large shawl knit in: Midnight Train to Georgia (navy, 1 skein), Non-Denominational Wrapping Paper (light gray/blue, 2 skeins) and Voices Carry (dark gray/blue, 2 skeins).

Sample small shawl knit in: Evil Beaver (brown, 1 skein), Saturday Night Beaver (pink, 2 skeins) and Adella is the Greatest (green, 1 skein).

If substituting yarn, I suggest a DK weight MCN similar to the Swanky. Speckled yarn is great for this, as the flecks can dictate your contrast color beautifully. Choose a yarn that’s soft to wear against your skin.

Gauge: Each 13-stitch repeat of lace is 3”/7.75cm wide. Row gauge is about 28 rows per 4”/10cm in garter stitch.

Both gauge measurements based on final blocked fabric. Since this is a shawl, exact fit is not important, but note that finished size and yarn usage will vary with alternate gauge.

Needles: US 7/4.5mm

Size (asymmetric triangle shape):

46(61)”/116.75(155)cm wide across the bottom

55(43)”/139.75(109.25)cm deep from the cast on edge to upper point at end
