Lemon & Paeroa

$8.00

Lemon & Paeroa is named for a popular drink in New Zealand, as a nod to the beautiful Arapawa yarn used. Helene of Happy Go Knitty makes gorgeous blends using local fibers from NZ, and since this is my third design with her, I can attest that her yarns are soft and stunning and wear beautifully. Her colors are subdued and sophisticated, and the gentle heathers and natural tweed shades hidden in the strands really highlight my stitches!

Lemon & Paeroa is a cozy cardigan with bold details and a cozy collar. The body and sleeves are worked in a simple textured stripe, paired with panels of wavy cables. These panels feature crisp transitions so the entire design uses strong lines and reads as classic and chunky and geometric. A deep button band and hem reinforces this vibe, and of course I had a little fun with the cable "feet" within that hem.

The pattern is proportionally sized so that larger sizes feature larger and/or more cables, and notes are included on how and where to modify this for your own tastes. Body length or circumference can easily be altered, and notes are included about personalizing your sleeve fit and on how to tweak your collar or button band if desired.

The cardigan is worked from the bottom up in one piece to armholes, then upper body is split into 3 pieces and continued to shoulders. Button band is worked upwards with body. Once shoulders are seamed, stitches are picked up around armholes for sleeves and worked in the round to cuff, then stitches are picked up around neckline and worked flat for collar.

All cable instructions are both charted and written.

Yarn: Happy Go Knitty Marapawa 8 ply, (75% Merino, 25% Arapawa) 262yds/240m per 100g/3.5oz skein. Color shown is Tui.

If substituting yarn, I suggest a solid, tweed, or heather heavy worsted or Aran weight in a wool or wool-blend fiber. Swatch in cable pattern to be sure of your gauge and to see how pattern shows up in your chosen yarn.

Gauge:

Cable motif and rib at hem: 20sts/28 rows per 4”/10cm

Garter stripe body pattern: 16sts/28 rows per 4”/10cm.

1x1 rib on smaller needle at cuff 20sts/28 rounds per 4”/10cm

Needles: US#8/5mm needles, or size needed to get gauge.

Long (32”/81.25cm or more) circular needle for body, US#7/4.5mm in preferred method for small circumferences on cuffs. 16”/40.5 circular needle in both sizes for collar.

Sizes:

34(38,42,46,50)(54,58,62,66)”

86.25(96.5,106.75,116.75,127)(137.25,147.25,157.5,167.25)cm

Sizing reflects actual bust circumference, worn closed and is based on final, blocked fabric. For fit shown, choose the size that allows 4-5”/10-12.75cm positive ease at bust.

Yardage:

1000(1100,1200,1300,1350)(1450,1550,1650,1800)yds

Estimates contain about 10% extra, based on test knit feedback and may vary with substitution or pattern mods. Heavy worsted or light Aran weight yarn needed.
