Dolcetto

$9.00

Dolcetto was designed as part of an amazing Italian knitting retreat I had the pleasure to teach at, hosted by mYak yarns in the Langhe region of Italy! With that in mind, I designed this pattern to dovetail into the two workshops I taught - one on Necklines, and one on Pattern Modification. Because my classes were all about options, you have options too!

Dolcetto is a cute little top that's meant to work a number of ways. I chose a unique cable that's elegant and detailed, with a fun textured technique involved. I placed the cables in panels, all facing the same direction to highlight the curves here. I then added a bit of texture at center and some stockinette along the sides of the body, and I extended the cable feet straight into the hem edge. It's timeless, but a little unique, and when knit in mYak Medium, it feels so very soft and luxurious as well.

The idea behind the design was to create a classic piece that could be both modified and worn a number of ways, since my workshops were about tailoring your knits to work for you.

With that in mind, the different panels here are intentionally designed to make modification easy. Small cap shoulders allow you to wear Dolcetto without anything underneath - but also to be able to layer it if desired, and the option for either a V or crew neck means that you can choose what works best in your wardrobe. Notes on adjusting length, body circumference, armhole depth, and to make smaller adjustments within the chosen neckline are included in the patterns, and this design works equally well with more or less ease, depending on how you want to wear it.

Leslie is wearing my crew neck sample (shown in Mustard) with my preferred fit. She's got 3-4/7.75-10cm of ease at bust and the length on her is a higher crop that looks great with a shirt underneath. It also looks fantastic worn alone over high waisted pants or a skirt, or worn over a simple dress with waist shaping. (I know this because I've worn it all those ways so far!)

Robin is wearing Paola's V-neck sample (shown in Petrol) with about 5-6”/12.75-15.25cm of ease, and more of a hip length. I love how this works solo, as a loose and easy shell, and I can also see how it would be beautiful with a layer underneath, or even tucked into a pair of jeans. Paola wore this on the retreat with a long sleeved shirt underneath and loose, flowy pants and it looked great on her.

Dolcetto is worked from the bottom up in the round, and split into front and back at armholes. These front and back pieces are then worked flat to shoulder. Collar and armhole ribbings are picked up around openings once shoulders are seamed and worked in round.

Cable instructions are both charted and written, and each pattern has many notes on the different places and ways you can modify the vest to fit your needs.

The Dolcetto pattern purchase includes both a V-neck and a crew neck version of the vest in the single PDF download.

Yarn: mYak Fibers Baby Yak Medium, (100% Baby Yak, 128yds/117m per 1.76oz/50g skein). Crew neck sample shown in Mustard, V-neck sample shown in Petrol.

I suggest a solid or semi solid shade with minimal variegation that will work to gauge and show off the detail well. If knitting a size with more ease, choose a yarn with some memory so that your vest does not grow with wear. Yardage may vary with modifications or substitute yarns.

Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rounds/rows per 4”/10cm in both stockinette and seed stitch. Cable gauge given in pattern.

Needles: US#7/4.5mm, or size to get gauge. I suggest long circulars for body, and shorter circulars around collar and armhole. US#6/4mm needle suggested on armhole and collar, or size smaller than main needle.

Sizes:

36.5(39.5,43.5,49.5,53.5)(57.5,61.5,66.5)”

92.75(100.25,110.5,125.75,136)(146,156.25,169)cm

Choose the size that allows for at least 4”/10cm of ease at bust. Crew neck shown with 4”/10cm of ease, V-neck shown with slightly more ease.

Yardage:

Crew neck: 750(800,900,1000,1100)(1200,1350,1450)yds/685(730,825,915,1005)(1100,1235,1325)m

V-neck: 700(750,850,950,1050)(1150,1250,1350)yds/640(685,780,870,960)(1050,1145,1235)m
