Cherry Rumble Hat

$7.00

The Cherry Rumble Hat features an elegant, undulating mix of lace and ribbing that creates overlapping "leaves". There's a new technique to learn in here, where you'll both cross a cable and decrease a stitch in one fell swoop, but I promise it's easy to do!

The beautiful lace transitions perfectly into a ribbed brim, and I used a second color just for fun there. The crown is a little more dramatic, but again plays with the ribs that flow naturally from the lace and cable motif into a point at crown.

Heritage is a gorgeous woolen-spun DK. If substituting yarn, look for a light worsted or heavy DK weight yarn that shows off the pattern nicely. The Heritage is soft and round and stretches a little when worn, so the pattern opens up beautifully.

North Bay Fiber will have kits from Friday 4/8 6pm EST, in a few beautiful color combinations, available here.

Yarn: North Bay Fiber Heritage (100% Targhee-Polypay wool, DK weight; 150yds/137m per 50g skein). Sample is shown worn in Chinook, with a Pumpkinseed brim. Unworn samples are Natural/Pumpkinseed, and Chinook/Sandbar.

If substituting yarn, look for a light worsted/heavy DK weight yarn that works up at the gauge needed for the pattern repeat. You can then adjust needle size for the brim section if needed so that ribbing is snug around head. Use a subtly shaded or solid color, so the texture and lines of the pattern will stand out, and note that it is important to choose a yarn with some memory so your hat will fit well.

Gauge: 23sts/26 rounds per 4"/10cm in lace pattern on larger needle, 24sts/30 rounds per 4”/10cm in rib on smaller needle

Needles: US 5/3.75mm, US 6/4mm needles

Sizes:

18(21.5)”/45.5(54.5)cm circumference around body of hat

9.25(9.25)”/23.5(23.5)cm deep from cast-on edge to top of crown

Yardage:

110(140)yds/100(130)m for body

40(55)yds/35(50)m needed for brim
