Give me a deep, moody, heathered rustic yarn and my heart grows three sizes. And Brume Aran is exactly that yarn! But a fiber with this much personality requires simple lines and bold detail that both allow it to shine and can stand up to the complex highs and lows of the deep color.

With that in mind, a garter stitch honeycomb pattern is worked here with twisted cables. As I often do, I made sure the ribbing at hem flows right into the body, and that continued line really sets up the pattern. Strong detail at the front and side edges of each cable panel allow the different textures to contrast nicely, while - as always, providing a spot for easy modifications! More bold detail along the button band makes for a beautiful line at center front, and sleeves feature a few more cables, with more contrasting lines under each arm.

Finally, a nice, open collar is picked up around the tops of the button bands and worked in chunky ribbing to match.

Yarn: daughter of a shepherd Brume Aran (50% Hebridean, 25% Zwartbles, 25% Exmoor Blueface; 182yds/166m per 100g/3.5oz skein). Color is natural shade of wool.

If substituting, I suggest a heavy worsted or light aran weight yarn in a wool or wool blend. A solid, heather, tweed or subtle semi solid will show off the pattern best.

Gauge:

Cable motif and 2x2 ribbing on larger needles: 20sts/28 rows per 4”/10cm.

1x1 side rib on larger needles: 22sts/28 rows per 4”/10cm.

2x2 cuff rib on smaller needles: 22sts/28 rounds per 4”/10cm.

Needles: US#7/4.5mm needles for gauge and smaller US#6/4mm needles for cuffs only.

Sizes (based on finished circumference around bust, worn closed):

36.75(40.25,43.25,47.5,51.5)(56,62.5,66.5)”

93.25(102.25,109.75,120.75,130.75)(142.25,158.75,169)cm

For fit shown, I suggest choosing the size that gives you about 5”/12.75cm positive ease around bust.
