Amaretto

$7.00

Amaretto is a cabled hat that features bold, elegant lines worked in a cabled, textured motif. It’s fun and so satisfying to work, and it lent itself beautifully to this hat design.

Both brim and crown transition into the lines of the cable easily, and when worked in gorgeous wool, the detail just pops!

I decided to play with the design just a little and worked the hat with two different silhouettes. A little longer brim gives it a bit of slouch - and a folded brim, worn just a little lower on the head, makes for a perfect fitted cap. Versatile and unisex.

Instructions for both brims are included in the pattern, and the hat will easily lend itself to a number of beautiful solid, heathered, tweed, or semi solid skeins you might have laying around! Or try either of the yarns I used - I love both and they come in some gorgeous colors.

Yarns: (Two samples knit in different yarns; choose one worsted weight yarn)

Sawkill Farm 3ply Worsted (50% Sawkill Farm wool, 50% domestic Merino; 200yds/183m per 3.5oz/100g skein), shown in Rhode Island Red.

Hudson + West Forge (70% US Merino, 30% US Corriedale; 235yds/215m per 3.5oz/100g skein), shown in Red Feather.

If substituting yarn, a worsted weight wool with some memory in a solid, semi-solid, heather, or tweed will work best. Swatch in both ribbing and cable pattern to ensure that you are getting gauge and that you like the fabric your yarn creates. Memory in your fabric is important for a good fit and a long-wearing hat. Don’t knit a hat at a loose gauge or in a fabric with too much drape.

Gauge: 20 stitches and 25 rows = 4 inches in stockinette, based on final blocked fabric. Cable gauge given in pattern.

Needles: US 6/4.0mm, US 7/4.5mm
